CAMP WEEK THREE

News with Noah

Hunter F., a free swimmer at camp, loves to do freestyle but it’s not his best stroke. He says he is best at breast stroke. Shocker right? The nice counselor Buddy Brewer has worked at Stone Ridge Summer Campus since 2018. He teaches inner tube water polo and he is a lifeguard for free swim.

Gator Games

Yesterday (July Fifth 2022) we interviewed multiple classes in the Stone Ridge Summer Camp. First we visited at my request Gator Games which had Sofie G as head counselor. She relayed to me the activities that the children in Gator Games did such as Soccer (My favorite sport), Dodgeball, Hockey, Basketball, Capture the Flag and SPUD. At first I was ignorant of what SPUD was, but Sofie explained that that SPUD was “ a game that Dave Gordon invented using a kickball.” I curiously inquired who was Gator Games’s most talented soccer player and she replied that Anna Larkin was. Most popular Gator Games are dodgeball and SPUD. Seems like these kids are having a blast.

On Tuesday the Gator Gazette visited cooking with Tiny Chefs. It smells SO good in their kitchen. I saw them making pumpkin pancakes. You get to learn how to properly use a knife. It seems really fun in cooking with Tiny Chefs.

TOTALLY TRENDING

My sister is in Totally Trendy Crafts but today your boy Noah is telling you what’s trending. Well it's my sisters words. I asked her what her favorite craft was and she said making a clay pineapple and I asked her who is your favorite  favorite counselor and she said  Emma. Well,  that’s it for today. Stay tuned for more Noah's News!

CARTOON CLASS

After  interviewing Trendy Crafts with Gator Gazette, we visited Cartooning, whose head counselor was my teacher during the second period at the camp.  Seeing that we had entered, one of the students presented me with a story he imagined. Then we interviewed the counselor asking her what she taught her students. She replied that she teaches her kids to convey feelings with eyebrow shapes, to create characters and how to use dialogue boxes. Cartooning looks like a lot of fun! ~Marcus

CAMP WEEK FOUR

MINI GATORS 4'S

Today we visited mini gator 4’s and I went in to interview them.  They were asked what their favorite things to do are and here are the answers: multiple people said everything which was really nice to hear and others answered with “ water play “ which is a time where they can go outside and play in the sprinkler (from what I remember about being a mini.) Multiple other people said making bracelets and doing crafts. This week is the outer space theme so all the crafts were based off of outer space. As of Tuesday the kids have made rocket ships and aliens. Sounds like it’s going to be a fun week in mini gators! ~Norah

ROCKET SCIENCE--BLAST OFF!

We went to Rocket Science and watched them pump air into a rocket and into the sky. They had different angles to launch the rocket on. The higher the angle number, the higher it would go. I interviewed Carrie and she said she was in Rocket Science because it sounded fun. She likes how they learned about rockets. Watch the video! ~ Elinor

Look what this camper created with a broken arm!

Diving is fun !

In diving you learn how to dive in different ways !

You jump off the diving board and dive like Coach Bob.

Coach Bob is a very nice coach .

I like diving because it is fun and because you go deeper in the water .

I think more boys should do diving because diving is for everyone . ~ Louis

MINI GATOR 6'S

If you’re a mini gator you’ll have fun! Campers in mini gators say they do lots of crafts. Campers favorite things to make are playing with pearl beads and using playdough. They also love to go swimming.    ~Anna

TINY CHEFS

Today in Tiny Chefs they made whoopie pies and veggie soup. I asked Carrera about the class and this is what she said, “ My favorite thing that I’ve made is the whoopie pie and the things I’ve made so far are chocolate chip cookies, whoopie pies, and corn dogs.” when asked where she will use the skills Carrera answered with “at a job maybe or when I’m baking in my house.” Sounds like Carrera enjoyed Tiny Chefs and I think the other chefs did too!  We did a poll to see what the favorites were in Tiny Chefs and multiple people agreed with Carrera saying whoopie pies were the best. Sounds tasty! ~Norah

HIP HOP DANCE!

The children that are in hip hop love to dance! Like me! In hip hop you have to be moody, sassy, and full of emotion. You have to feel the beat so that your dance moves make sense with the song. Dance is like a sport, you have to be a team player with your body. You need to know your limits. Dance can be many things and that’s what you will learn if you do hip hop. Dance can be anything you desire. It can be waving your hands and feet around or doing anything with your body. If you like dancing or are adventurous with exploring new things, and if you haven’t ever done dance or formal dance lessons hip hop is just the right thing to explore. Do hip hop! Sign up now! ~ Harper

GATOR GAMES

Gator  Games is so fun !!!!!

You play all sorts of games like dodgeball and soccer .

You would like it if you are an active person.

You get to listen to music!

A lot of boys and girls are in Gator Games and really having a great time! ~Louis

TOTALLY TRENDING CRAFTS

TOTALLY TRENDY CRAFTS

Today we visited Totally Trendy Crafts and interviewed them. I asked what they were making and they said they were making Pom Pom Picture Frames. Pom Pom Picture Frames are a frame and then you decorate around it with Pom Poms. They also made Water Bottle Stickers and a Flamingo Picture. Looks like they are going to be making some fun crafts this week!!! ~Himani

FUN WITH PICKLE BALL!

I take the Pickle Ball class at camp and it’s really fun! We get to practice and play games at the same time! Some of the games we play are Around the World, Jailbreak and Kings and Queens. My favorite is probably Around the World. Most  people in Pickle Ball like Jailbreak the best though. I think you should try playing Pickle Ball! 😄🤩 ~ Himani

STRINGS AND THINGS

Today we went to Strings & Things. There are different things you can look at that are weaved, sewed and knitted. There are also a lot of different materials you can use to make things and you get to choose what you make! We asked Bess what she made and she said “I made a hat.” We also asked her why she likes Strings & Things and she said “Because I make things here that I can’t make at home.” We asked Molly what she made and she said “I made a rubber band ball and I am crocheting.” I think everyone is enjoying Strings & Things!               ~Himani 😄

LEGOS, LOGS AND LINKS!

Legos, Logs and Links is all about creating all sorts of legos figures.

You can create anything--cars, a house , a beach--anything, really 😲!

You can build with partners!

My favorite part of legos is at the end when you get to break all of the legos apart !!!!! ~ Louis

CARTOONING

Comic Book Illustrations

In cartooning we do a lot of activities. We mostly write comic books. But sometimes we get to play with clay since clay creations is right before it. We get to listen to music and talk all we want (if we don’t shout). In cartooning you don’t need to be stressed about finishing your book and you don’t need to have a perfect idea of what your going to write about. I love cartooning because you have the freedom to do what you want. ~Elinor

GATORS SING OFF-BROADWAY

Tom, A 10 year camp veteran (he made me write that) says that he enjoys watching his campers become actors and actresses. The other counselor Molly says "I like sharing my love for theater with the new generation." A theater camper says their favorite part of theater is singing. Here are some notes about theater.Theater makes sure everyone is happy and having fun. They make sure everyone is in the spotlight. Everyone in theater is getting more confident by the minute. ~ Anna

WHAT'S TRENDING?

When lots of people do something it becomes popular for a few years or more and lately the newest trend has been water bottle stickers. Water bottle stickers can be a fabulous way to decorate your water bottles. There is only one way to see if water bottle stickers are actually trending - - - if I count 140 water bottle stickers in one day water bottle stickers will be officially trending. It’s the next day and I counted 153 water bottle stickers! It is official water bottle stickers are officially trending! Time to get water bottle stickers because there trending! So why don’t you have water bottle stickers on your water bottle yet!? What’s trending water bottle stickers! ~Harper

COUNSELOR SPOTLIGHT

This week the spotlight counselor of the week is Tom Robey! He likes to spend time outside of camp with his best friend Sofie. Tom has been at Stone Ridge Summer Campus for 10 years! He started coming to camp when he was 6 years old. Tom is a counselor for the theater . He likes this because he likes helping kids learn about the theater arts and he wants to help all of the kids doing theater to have fun and find themselves in theater.

So again, congrats to Tom Robey for being the spotlight counselor of the week. ~Abby and Nikki

They also like swimming laps and jumping off the diving board. On the other hand, the life guards teach swim lessons and guard the pool. Whether you're a kid or adult you always love the pool.     - Nikki

ALL ABOUT OFFICER JACKSON

We recently interviewed Officer Jackson for our camp blog. Here’s some things she shared. First thing in the morning she directs traffic, then she goes around and scans all the white dots around campus. After that she watches the cars that pull into the parking lot and looks for those trying to park illegally. Lastly she goes around campus checking doors to see if they’re locked or unlocked. Officer Jackson loves working at Stone Ridge mostly because of the nice people. ~ Abby

Paint a Palooza

Paint a palooza

A new class is here and it is all about painting.

In paint a palooza kids have been painting many

things like Van Gogh's Starry Night, Flowers Bridge and more.

The goal is for kids to learn about different famous artists.

In other words kids in this class love to paint!    - Nikki

ALWAYS A FUN TIME AT CAMP DROP-OFF!

HAVING A GREAT TIME IN STRINGS AND THINGS

In strings and things people have been knitting and sewing a lot. People have been making pillows and hats and so much more. The teacher has lived all around the world so she has many materials. If kids are sewing some people have done different styles like crochet. - Nikki & Sofia

WHO ARE THESE CRAFTY CRITTERS?

Crafty critters are doing a whole bunch of fun crafts, including making stuffed animals which they stuffed with cotton, designing clay animals, and doing an edible project. ~Abby

CAMPERS ARE MAD ABOUT LEGOS THIS YEAR!! CHECK OUT THIS RENDITION OF NEW YORK CITY!

CAMP WEEK 6

Please enjoy our stories and pictures from our last week of camp!!

Things the Strings & Things kids are working on!:

In Strings & Things, for some of the kids they’ve never done this class and for others they are familiar. However, most of the kids love the class and creating fun projects, and others like the fact that they can think about what to make in a quiet space!

Currently, the kids are letting their imaginations run wild; from making a pillow, to just brainstorming some fun ideas! These kids are very creative and this is the perfect space and environment for them. Later Gators!

~ Caroline

GETTING CREATIVE!

MIGHTY GATOR 4'S HAVING SOME OUTDOOR FUN!

BROADWAY--GET READY FOR THE GATORS!

Welcome to the stage! The first thing I noticed in the Gators Off Broadway classroom are the weird animal heads. Molly, a counselor, says she thinks they were used in The Lion King a few weeks ago, and otherwise just decoration. The current production is… Wicked! The cast is also working on designing their own costumes and sets. They are even painting backdrops for the different scenes. They do a lot of vocal warm up exercises, including going up and down the scale, and singing the vowels. Good luck on you performance!

Later, Gators! ~Cara

CHECK US OUT
SNEAKING INTO
PRACTICE!

THE INSIDE SCOOP ON FREE SWIM

Free swim is a fun final period at the pool. You can grab pool noodles, and you can race and swim in the lanes. Lots of people were jumping off the diving board, and playing categories and colors. You can just practice your strokes, like butterfly or back stroke. Sounds like loads of fun, right? Does to me! Definitely a recommendation for next year! Later Gators!

                                                                ~Mila

FUN IN GATOR GAMES!

Both of the kids and counselors who are a part of Gator Games enjoy playing the games that they do in the class. The counselors enjoy being with the kids and playing the games with them. The kids also have fun interacting with the counselors.

The kids love these games, but they think the most challenging part is staying in the games because it can be very competitive but still fun and enjoyable.

On Monday, the kids were playing Doctor Dodge. It looked like they were having a lot of fun, and the counselors were having fun as well.

~ Mikaela

DARING TO DIVE

Coach Walker is an an amazing diving coach and has been a diving coach for about 32 years. He is teaching lots of dives in some of the periods such as the 4 positions which are straight, tuck, pike, and a twist, and basic front dives. Also, he teaches a back jump which is where you jump off the board backwards. The tear drop, in my opinion, takes the most self-confidence because you have to trust that you won’t back-flop. He said, “I am always excited for the Friday meets because they realize that some of the dives are 1 times their score, 2 times the score, and 3 times their score so they challenge themselves to do harder dives.” It is always okay to be a little nervous to go off the board, but remember, being nervous doesn’t mean you are not brave. Later Gators!

GATOR FEED

The lunches here are loved by campers and counselors alike. From the Gators Off Broadway classroom, a counselor says that they love the food, and a camper said they like it, but the grilled cheese was not the best. In comparison to the other food, of course. A couple campers from Strings and Things were excited that there were cafeteria lunches that were actually really tasty! Other campers from Strings and Things specified that the textures were good, the cafeteria is big, and the desserts are loved by all. They said that the salad bar is cool, and a rare feature for most schools. The variety here at Stone Ridge is amazing to everyone.

     ~ Cara

GATORS GETTING ARTSY

Totally Trendy Crafts, and Strings n’ things are getting artsy by making keychains and having very cool knitting projects. Strings n’ things is all about knitting and making pillows. I, personally am making a hat for my dog, because it would be too small to fit my head! Totally Trendy Crafts is all about crafts! They make keychains and earrings. When I did it on Week 4, I had lots of fun!

                    Later Gators!

                                ~Mila

WHO ARE THE GATOR GAZETTE REPORTERS??

Welcome to the Gator Gazette! We are the week 6 staff, Cara, Caroline, Mila, Scarlett, and Mikaela. We work hard and run all over camp to get quality stories. Then, we realized the only class that hasn’t been covered at all was us! We made some really nice stories this week, but have had plenty of time to be silly. Between taking ridiculous pictures, almost getting our iPads taken away, and even generally screaming and laughing , we’ve had a great time putting together your camp blog. We tried to pick some fun classes to report on this week. Every camper and counselor we asked was super helpful and gave us a ton of information we needed for our articles. We all appreciate you guys tolerating us walking around, yelling a bit, and coming into your classrooms. We hope you enjoy every article to come, and have a great summer! LATER GATORS!
